KOTTAYAM: Bharath Sanchar Nigom Ltd will strengthen its presence in the district in the coming four months, K Balasubrahmonian, general manager, has said.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Mr. Balasubrahmonian said top on the agenda was to add 49 new mobile towers to the existing 181, in the district. The expansion of the wireless phone is also going on, he said and added that four new WLL towers would be added to the present 47. The new towers will be at Peroor, Kooroppada, Kangazha and Kadayinikkad.
The mobile broadband facility will also be expanded to new areas. The mobile broadband facility, provided through wireless EVDO, which as a speed of 1,800 Kpbs, is now available in Kottayam, Pala and Changanassery. However, new areas, including Kudamaloor, Ayarkunnam, Manarcadu, Mammood, Ettumanur, Thalayolaparambu, Ramapuram and Erattupettah will also be brought under the mobile broadband net, he said.
In response to a question, Mr. Balasubrahmonian said the free insurance scheme offered by the BSNL has already benefited four persons. As per the scheme all land line and WLL subscribers are automatically covered to the tune of Rs.50,000.
Mr Balasubrahmonian said women who register for new connections before March 31 will get a subsidy of 25 per cent for one year from the date of getting connection.
