State run telecom PSU BSNL has revised its data charges for its 2G and 3G customers. It has increased its data download charges for prepaid and postpaid customers in 2G as well 3G plans. It will now be charging 2p/10KB from the earlier 1p/10KB in home as well as in roaming which means now Rs. 2/MB will be charged for data downloads. It has also revised its data usage limits in one GPRS postpaid plan and one 3G postpaid plan and added a new 3G postpaid plan 2G Postpaid plan of Rs. 249 which was unlimited earlier will now have free data usage of 6GB usage only. Similarly postpaid 3G plan of Rs. 1359 which was unlimited earlier will now have free data usage of 15 GB only. 3G postpaid plans of Rs. 2720 has been added which will offer 35GB free data usage for a month. BSNL has further reduced the Unlimited 3G charges by almost 50%. The effective cost of using unlimited BSNL 3G will be Rs. 700/month* (Rs. 4,200 for 6 months) from 1st November 2010. There is no fair usage policy applicable on this scheme so you can download/upload as much as you want. BSNL and Reliance has finally reduced the price of their USB modem in order to attract a large number of internet users in India. Both the data card offers postpaid plans as well as prepaid vouchers and they come with some attractive offers. BSNL, the government owned telecom operator, has thrown down the gauntlet by launching 3G EVDO plans that substantially lowers access charges for consumers on the move. Though it’s a pan-India launch, though we’re not sure if Delhi or Mumbai are a part of the plan, since BSNL doesn’t service these cities; sister concern MTNL does. BSNL claims this is a pan-India offer, but doesn’t specify which cities will receive the 3.1 mbps speed, and which will switch to lower speeds. So far, 3G is about data cards in India....
